Emerging from the New York electronic scene, Malibu Cathy draws elements of mind-bending uncertainty to her musical style. Heavily influenced by Toronto-based producers like Rezz and Zed’s Dead, Malibu Cathy experiments with high frequency sound accompanied by a sinister shield giving no clear indication of what her intentions are. It’s that very ambiguity that sets her apart. She spent her teenage years in the tri-state area going to shows almost every weekend. She acquired her first taste of dirty bass while living in Colorado. Although, it wasn’t until 2019 that she decided to fully pursue music. Ultimately, wanting to provide people with the same out-of-mind experience that she was subject to while finding her own identity in the process. Malibu Cathy brings a new wave of presence to the female DJ movement, composing tracks that will lift you up and throw you right back down. While the shield hides the one dimension of facial expression, her tracks radiate emotional outcry and personal experience.
